Our first PFKF Kid Spotlight: Amelia (Mia) Spargo! Mia is a very brave, smart, kind and strong girl who loves life, the sun, the ocean, trees, flowers and birds! Mia always tries to help others. Mia was diagnosed with brain tumor cancer on September 15, 2013. She started chemotherapy at Texas Children's Hospital on September 19, 2013. As of May 2, 2014, Mia is cancer free! Mia's official diagnosis: NGGCT- brain suprasellar mass diabetes insipidus adrenal insufficiency central hypothyroidism nephrocalcinosis preglaucoma You may have seen Mia on TLC's "Toddlers & Tiaras", as Mia is a well-known beauty queen! But after being diagnosed with childhood cancer, Mia had to put all of her dreams on hold and go through all of the harmful and terrifying treatments. Even though Mia has been finished with her treatments for a while, her hair has not grown back because the radiation she received to shrink her tumor actually damaged all of her healthy hair follicles. This is just another reality a child with cancer has to face after enduring treatment. While receiving treatment at Texas Children's Hospital, Mia was gifted care packages and other goodies that brightened her day, much like what we send here at PFKF. Mia decided that one day, when she was better, she was going to send these packages as well! This idea became Mia's Magical Toy Drive, her annual toy drive that happens every Christmas! This holiday season, Mia has also started crocheting hats to donate to Texas Children's Hospital so kids with cancer can keep warm this winter! Mia truly is a remarkable girl, and I am very happy to have sent her a package! You can follow Mia on Instagram and Facebook! ~Alexa, Packages For Kid Fighters Team Member
